Are you thinking about buying a saloon car? If so then there will be a number of things you need to consider before committing to a purchase, and most importantly you’ll need to do your research.

Saloons vary greatly in their prices; luxury ones can cost a small fortune, however there are some excellent cars on the market for reasonable prices. Take the Ford Mondeo for example. It has won countless awards over the course of its lifetime and a second hand Mk IV in good condition could be picked up for as little as £5,000. The aesthetics of it have improved with every new generation and top spec models come with an excellent range of equipment.

One of the Mondeo’s biggest rivals is the Mazda 6. The exterior designs of the latest generations of the two models look incredibly similar, and there is little to choose between them in terms of performance. However, a budget vehicle may not necessarily have to be a used one – for some people Mazda 6 leasing deals may represent a more viable option.

By leasing a saloon you can drive a brand new car with a minimal up-front fee, and then make monthly payments for the remainder of the lease period which will typically be 36 months. Paying monthly can be a far more attractive proposition, and at the end of the lease you’ll have an option to buy the vehicle or start a new lease with a brand new car. Contract hire Mazda 6 rates can be compared easily online.

Another recent entry into the saloon market is the Vauxhall Insignia. It looks a little more sleek and stylish than the aforementioned vehicles, boasting a classier cabin too; however this is reflected in the price. That is not to say it isn’t a car to be bought on a budget though – there are many offerings on the used market representing excellent value.

Saloons make excellent family cars because of the space on offer with them; the Insignia, Mondeo and Mazda6 are all accomplished motorway cruisers too, which adds to the appeal for drivers who cover a high mileage.
